Titanic Fact 8: Charles Joughin

Charles Joughin was a chief on board the Titanic. He held on to the back of the ship as she sank into the water. This makes him the last passenger to get off the Titanic. He's mostly known for surviving for a large amount of time while in the freezing cold water. Within 15 minutes, most of the passengers who into the water died of hypothermia. Joughin survived for 3 hours(supposedly). It is speculated that because he had been drinking whiskey, this enabled him to survive in the water longer. In any case, as the ship sank, Joughin helped people into life boats. He also threw floating objects into the sea so passengers that fell off would have something to hold on to. After the ship sank, Joughin was one of the 6 passengers to be saved from the water after Titanic sank.
