In James Cameron's Titanic, there is an elderly couple shown briefly laying in bed as the water was rising. These were not fictional characters created for the film.They were Isidor and Ida Straus. Isidor and his brother owned the Macy's Department Store. Also, Isidor was formally a member of the US. House of Representatives.
In real life, Ida refused to get in the life boat without her husband. She is quoted as saying,""I will not be separated from my husband. As we have lived, so will we die, together." The couple was last seen sitting together on deck...waiting for the end.
They were also portrayed in deleted scene of the film.
