Titanic Fact 10: The dogs

There were 12 dogs on board Titanic. Of the 12, only 3 survived. The ones that survived were  2 Pomeranians and a Pekinese. The surviving dogs belonged to people in the first class and their owners typically kept them in their cabins. Larger dogs and dogs of the lower classes were kept in kennels. During the sinking, a passenger went and released the dogs from the kennels. This passenger is rumored to have been John Jacob Astor, the richest man on the ship. This rumor has never been confirmed. But it is true that Astor's Airedale was in the kennel. Among the dogs that didn’t make it were : a Spaniel, 3 Airedales, and a Fox Terrier.
